Latina women shining in Montreal

International Women's Day is commemorated in March, and Spotlight Montreal has the purpose of making visible five brilliant Latina women who, with their work, talent and perseverance, are generating economic, social and cultural value in Montreal. The solidity of their trajectories, their social involvement and their entrepreneurial spirit inspire migrant women not to give up and achieve their dreams.

 

Irene Levy is a Mexican multitalented lawyer experienced in policy development and public affairs. Is a lawyer from la Escuela Libre de Derecho, she has a Master's Degree in Law from the Center for Postgraduate Studies in Law, a Diploma in International Trade "CUSMA" from the International Chamber of Commerce, and also has studies in Public Administration from the National Institute of Public Administration in Mexico City. She was the general director of Observatel A.C., a non-profit organization, from 2010 until 2021, and she currently remains its honorary President.

While living in Mexico, she worked in the Ministry of Communications and Transport, as well as being a consultant for the Mexican Senate, the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), and the Ministry of the Interior (Secretaría de Gobernación), among others. She was a member of the Advisory Councils of the Federal Telecommunications Commission, the Federal Consumer Protection Agency, and the Digital Public Innovation Agency (ADIP). After more than twenty years of experience in public policy activities, she was appointed commissioner of the National Anticorruption System.

From the year 2000 to 2018, she was a professor of law at the Universidad Iberoamericana, in Mexico City. Also she had an important backround as a journalist as well. She started her presence in different media since 2002. Currently, she is a weekly radio commentator for Radio Education since 2019, and has been a columnist for the Mexican newspaper “El Universal” since 2011.

She has extensive experience in promoting new businesses, and advising clients on legal matters such as anti-corruption, lobbying, media and telecommunications, corporate law, and public affairs, she was appointed Representative in Montreal, Quebec, of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Mexico (CanChamMx). Also, she is vice president of the recently established World Association of Women Journalists and Writers of the Canada chapter.
